Scripture Scribbles: June 4, 2023 Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity
the Gospel
John 3:16-18
God so loved the world that he gave his only Son,
so that everyone who believes in him might not perish
but might have eternal life.
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world,
but that the world might be saved through him.
Whoever believes in him will not be condemned,
but whoever does not believe has already been condemned,
because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
the devotion
“The ultimate end of the whole divine economy is the entry of God’s creatures into the perfect unity of the Blessed Trinity.” (CCC 260)
We are made for the perfect unity of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. We are made to exist in this unending love!
Often, I feel hurt and separated from this overwhelming, incomprehensible love. Sacred Scripture tells us over and over of God’s love for us and his will to heal us and to bring us into perfect communion with himself.
So what holds us back from leaping up and receiving what he wants to give?
The Lord asked me just that in prayer a few days ago. Encircled and protected by Him and led by the Holy Spirit in this prayer experience, I felt safe enough to peel back the layers. Underneath it all was fear. He so tenderly received my fears as I offered them to him one by one, asking me questions about them, about what might happen, what pain I might experience.
And then he asked, “What would help you accept what I want to give you?”
The answer that sprang from my heart through the Holy Spirit was Him. Knowing his heart. Knowing his mercy and love for me. The answer was and is relationship with him.
“The mystery of the Most Holy Trinity is the central mystery of Christian faith and life. It is the mystery of God in himself.” (CCC 234)
Language around the Trinity can sometimes sound lofty or academic but nothing could be more immediate, more real, more tangible or more healing than who God is.
I invite you today to open your heart to the mystery of the Most Holy Trinity and invite God to encircle you and offer himself to you. Whatever is holding you back, he wills to heal it with himself.
Will you let him?
