Scripture Scribbles: April 20, 2025 The Resurrection of the Lord

the Gospel

John 20:1-9

On the first day of the week,
Mary of Magdala came to the tomb early in the morning,
while it was still dark,
and saw the stone removed from the tomb.
So she ran and went to Simon Peter
and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and told them,
“They have taken the Lord from the tomb,
and we don’t know where they put him.”
So Peter and the other disciple went out and came to the tomb.
They both ran, but the other disciple ran faster than Peter
and arrived at the tomb first;
he bent down and saw the burial cloths there, but did not go in.
When Simon Peter arrived after him,
he went into the tomb and saw the burial cloths there,
and the cloth that had covered his head,
not with the burial cloths but rolled up in a separate place.
Then the other disciple also went in,
the one who had arrived at the tomb first,
and he saw and believed.
For they did not yet understand the Scripture
that he had to rise from the dead.

They “saw and believed.” Jesus is risen! Believe in the Resurrection, the most important mystery of our faith, the central teaching of Christianity. More than 500 people saw Jesus alive and were willing to undergo torture and die rather than deny this truth. When challenged to investigate Jesus’ Resurrection, once skeptic Sir Lionel Luckhoo (the most successful attorney in the world) after his extensive investigation concluded, “I say unequivocally that the evidence for the Resurrection of Jesus Christ is so overwhelming that it compels acceptance by proof which leads absolutely no room for doubt.”

Jesus Christ our life has conquered sin, fear, and death. Jesus our light can conquer our darkness: sin, sadness, negativity, fear, addiction, insecurity, anxiety, imperfections, failures, despair, hurt, pain, wounds, loneliness, brokenness, unhealthy attachments, and anything that blocks us from seeing the light of our kind, gentle, loving, and merciful God. Give your suffering to Him, remain in Him, and allow His light to vanquish the darkness.

“We know that all things work for good for those who love God.” (Romans 8:28)

As expressed by the song Way Maker, even when we don’t see or feel it, God is working and never stops working in us. His love is always present even when it feels hidden.

He heals and transforms our hearts so that we can shine into the darkness and become powerful witnesses to the Resurrection. Hope and rejoice in the power of the Resurrection, and may the Resurrected Christ live in you. Happy Easter!
